News & Politics QotD: Israel-Hamas Conflict

Comments

My take is that it is complicated. If we had only followed the Balfour declaration of 1917 and not broken our promises with the anglo-French agreement of 1918, the 'Palestinians' might not today be held in what are prison camps in Gaza and the West bank, but be on their own lands in trans-jordan. There might not be that simmering resentment and preaching of hatred from birth onwards towards Israel.

These people have been treated dreadfully over decades and now they are bombarded by Israel to make their plight even worse. However none of that is an excuse for the daily launching of indiscriminate rockets and mortars that has gone on for the last few years against the civil population of Israel, by Hamas.

Israel has no choice but to stop this reign of terror. It is sad to say, but the world would be more sympathetic to Israel's position if one of these missiles had destroyed a school or hospital with a large number of deaths, in Israel. Meanwhile Hamas fires from the cover of homes and schools and Israelie fire is returned with the resultant civilian casualties. It seems inevitable, from world opinion, that Israel will become the pariah of the world, for trying to protect itself.
OK now you have went and done it. I have to do some research on your first sentence. I hate when that happens. Untill then; My comment was more about Islam historically that still applies to current events all around the world, including Hamas. 'The Religion of the Sword' is not just a saying..it is truth many do not want to accept. That said, I think your observations are well founded. My political solution for this conflict would be to return control of the area not claimed by Israel to Jordan and Egypt where there is a more established government, such as it is. However, I don't think Jordan or Egypt would accept such a mandate from the UN without world support. But, it seems to me the only long term solution.
If I understand you correctly, that would mean Jordan and Egypt absorbing the people of the Gaza and West Bank 'prison/refugee' camps. But then these human beings couldn't be used as political pawns against Israel which would defeat the Arab/Islamist policy of decades.
Interesting blog and commentary. Thank you

Your conclusion, as Opra Winfrey would say of President-Elect Obama, He's Brilliant!

[this is good]
Interesting post.
